Comments: Glover's Atoll Resort is located on Southwest Key, a small unspoiled island about 20 miles off the coast of Belize. The diving is fabulous. The walls start at 40 feet and the amount of fish you see is just amazing. The first 4 days on the island, I was the only diver and had the divemaster (he calls himself "Breeze") all to myself. We never saw another person underwater. Breeze takes you out in his speedboat and treats you to delicious mangos and good conversation during the surface interval. There is also snorkeling and kayaking if you don't dive.

The other thing that makes Glover's Atoll Resort so special is Breeze's family. His wife Becky, Becky's mom and 2 daughters live and work on the island. They're extremely friendly and go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your island experience. Their prices are cheaper than other Belize resorts, and there's a reason for that: There is no electricity or running water on the island! You can think of it like glorified camping.

There are outhouses throughout the island. The cabanas they rent are very cute and include a stove and cooking utensils if you wish to cook your own meals. The lodge also serves good home cooked meals at reasonable prices with an emphasis on fresh seafood.

This island is one of my favorite little places on earth! It's great for solo travelers because you pay for the cabanas by the person, not by the room. I paid $200/wk for my cabana! Please check their website for current prices. Glover's Atoll Resort
