Meeting:
Wade introduced tonight’s presenter John Frease of General Fire.

John began his business in 1971. He states that he has only had two tanks rupture since he started. About 1 in 1000 tanks fail inspection and he says this is usually a weakness at the neck of the tank. John explained how they calibrate their equipment daily for testing and chart it to tank size. John demonstrated how tanks are hydo’ed. He states they measure the expansion of the tank. 10% expansion is acceptable however they discard tanks at a 5% expansion. John states it takes about 5 minutes to test the tank then put on the dryer for 10-15 minutes. General Fire stamps both aluminum and steel tanks. They test up to 7000 psi.

After the meeting quite a few club members remained to visit for about an hour or so. It was nice conversation and enjoyable catching up on dive stories and life in general.
