09-AUG-2005 MEETING

Meeting Minutes For Desert Divers Of Idaho

Meeting of 8/9/05

The meeting was a dive meeting. Seven divers came to the parking lot between Barkley ramp and Turner Gulch. Everyone started to show up about 6:30. The members present were Jeff and Tristan Burkhardt, Earl Eblen, Harvey Harris, Ron Schneider, Jon Schwartz and Dirk Spackman. The weather was perfect and the water was clear. Visibility was 10’ to 15’. Harvey had a rebreather and was showing everyone how it worked. He had been there most of the day and had done two very long dives already. No surprise there! After getting reacquainted and getting geared up we were in the water by 7:30.

Almost immediately Ron and I saw a large crawdad that was about 8” long and a large trout swam by also. We saw more of the same as our dive progressed. Earl and Harvey went out about a quarter mile and went deep, down to around 80’. Because Harvey had a rebreather and Earl was diving with his doubles, they were down a long time. They said mainly what they saw at that depth was “DARK” and a gravel bottom. Jeff and Tristan had fun also as they were out about the same time as Earl and Harvey. Jon was support person this time and didn’t dive, but he did a excellent job of keeping track of everyone by their bubbles and yelling at the boats whenever they would get to close to the dive flag.

When everyone had walked back to the parking lot and was stowing their gear, Jon brought out some fresh fruit that really helped the dry mouth after diving. We then had a good time recounting all our adventures and just talking. We didn’t leave until around 9:30. All in all it was one of the best dives I have had at Lucky Peak and doing it with people from the club made it that much better. Everyone had fun and are looking forward to the next club dive. We hope that more people come out for the next one.

The next meeting will be another club dive, location to be determined. There was a mix-up on posting this dive on the web site, but we will be sure that doesn’t happen next time. Meanwhile, Keep Diving!

Dirk Spackman, Sec/Treas.
