10-FEB-2004 MEETING

Meeting Minutes For Desert Divers Of Idaho

Meeting of 2/10/04

The third meeting was called to order at 7:15 p.m. in Dive Magic's education room. We had 20 members attending. Arnie went over what the club officers and Chris have been doing since the last meeting.

1. Arnie has been talking with the TV stations and has set up a SCUBA Diving segment with Channel 6 (KIVI) and is talking with Channel 2(KBCI) and Channel 12 (KTRV).

2. Arnie, Earl, Chris and Dirk manned a booth that we shared with the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation at the Treasure Valley Boat Show in January. We talked to many people about dive safety and gave out info on the dive shops and dive club. As far as being put together very fast, it was very successful. Thank you to Dive Magic and Boise Water Sports for their help and material to help us with this. Corby Christensen (Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation) was very helpful and generous to share the booth with us. Another big thanks to him and the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation. Earl and Dirk went to all the boat dealers booths and asked them to display our dive flag poster and information about our club. We were met with positive comments at all the booths. The Coast Guard Auxiliary in Cascade said that if we wanted to have a dive trip to Cascade they would help by flagging off a section of the lake for us.

3. Thanks to Chris Auth we had some very nice flyers and business cards that we gave out, and the t-shirts brought a lot of comments (all good!) also.

4. One idea Earl had was to talk to some boat shops and get some floating key fobs made with the dive flag on them as well as the shops name. This would be something that boaters would be more likely to keep rather than a card.

A sign up sheet was passed around to find out who would be willing to put some hours in at a booth the next time we do one. Thanks you to everyone that signed up. We will be contacting you next time.

The t-shirts were discussed and it was decided that for a little extra($8 to $13) a shirt would be included with your dues payment. Chris will decide how much the shirts are and let us know later.

The minutes from the January meeting were read and approved.

Jon Schwartz, Wade Pfenning and Tim Giltzow will do a presentation on underwater photography at the March meeting.

Jim Cady introduced Tye Lyon as a new member.

Earl talked about setting up some dive trips in March, April or May. Blue Hart in Hagerman and Crystal Springs were mentioned. Michelle Lyman said that sometime in March or April would be good for Edmonds in Washington, she mentioned having access to discounts, and Matt Adsitt will do some research on Yellowstone. Jim Brusse will research Monterey Bay in California. Later in the year Payette Lake or Red Fish are other great dives.

Jim Cady won the snorkel that was raffled. $22 was taken in for the raffle. Thanks to everyone that participated and Thanks to Dive Magic for their generous donation.

Dan announced that Jon Schwartz is now a dive master. Congratulations Jon!

Parks and Recreation will put a link to our internet site on their site. We will do the same for them on ours.

Pictures from Hoodsport, Washington were shown and discussion followed.

The next meeting will be at Dive Magic at 7:00 pm on 09-MAR-2004. There will be a potluck, so don't forget to bring your favorites! The entertainment will be provided with a presentation on underwater photography.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.

Dirk Spackman, Sec/Treas.
