11-MAY-2004 MEETING

Meeting Minutes For Desert Divers Of Idaho

Meeting of 5/11/04

The meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m. at Dive Magic. Arnie introduced the current officers again as we had many new members present. She then read the club Mission Statement, which can be viewed on our web site.

The reading of the minutes for the April meeting was waved and then Dirk gave the treasurer's report. There is currently $426.77 in the treasury.

Wade Pfennig brought some discount cards from Boise Water Sports for scuba intro classes and full scuba classes. He handed them out to interested people.

Earl then reported on the dives that we have organized and new ones coming up. The Blue Hart trip was a success. There is $67.00 left over after the boat fee and food was paid for. This will go into the club treasury for use on future club dives.

Five club members went to Crystal Springs on May 1st.

New dives coming up are the Poker Run at Arrowrock Reservoir on June 5th, the Lake Harbor clean up and bar-b-que on May 26th and the Payette Lake clean up (date to be announced). On May 22nd there will be a car wash at Dive Magic to benefit the Eagle Fire Explorers. With a car wash you get a raffle ticket for a raffle of merchandise donated by Dive Magic. If you bring your "C" card you can get a free car wash and a raffle ticket. Any money donated for the car wash will go toward SCUBA certifying the Eagle Fire Explorers.

Dirk brought up that it is legal in Utah to spear fish game fish and that this was achieved through the efforts of the scuba divers in Utah and that maybe this could be something that we could get legalized in Idaho. Dean Clower said that his dad used to be on the Fish and Game Board and that he still works with sportsman's groups as a lobbyist when they need one. Dean volunteered to look into how we may go about doing this. More on this as information comes in. To find out more about Utah's spear fishing check out www.utahdiving.com.

One of our members, Craig Cornwall, has an old ambulance that has been converted for a dive team to use. He was thinking that it may be an interesting project for the club to fancy it up to be used as our official vehicle to haul tanks and such to dives. There was some discussion about this and it was decided to put this aside until a later date. But thanks to Craig for bringing this interesting idea up.

As there was no other new business to discuss so Larry began the equipment maintenance presentation. A brief film was shown on how scuba equipment is made and then he went into basic maintenance of masks, fins, snorkels, wet and dry suits, BCDs, weight systems and air tanks and valves. This was the first part of his presentation. The second part will be presented next month on June 8th at 7:00 p.m. at Dive Magic. The meeting was adjourned at 10:00 pm.

Dirk Spackman, Sec/Treas.
