Wade opened the meeting and welcomed new member Bruce McCarthy.

Last month our meeting was with Dr. Johnson, the local DAN doctor. He spoke on dive computers and led a tour of the deco chambers at The Elks. Next year, we’ll meet with Dr. Johnson again, and the topic will be something related to “The Contra-Indications To Diving, Both Temporary and Permanent”. I.E. when have you have had an illness, injury, or medical condition that benches you from diving for either a while or permanently, what kind of wait times or recovery times you might allow before returning to diving.

Club Finance Report: At the start of the evening, the club balance was $255.86. The club is buying pizza this evening so there will be an adjustment for that to the balance after today. Also, we collected $34.00 extra in funds than were needed for Harvey’s plaque, so that will be added to the club balance.

Everyone was able to check out the plaque for Harvey. There is going to be an outing to sink the plaque and Wade made note of club members who wanted to attend the outing. A suggested date for the outing is December 19th, which would be 1 year from Harvey’s death.

Last Year’s Recap:

In January the club did their annual bowling outing at BSU. Everyone was quite impressed by Mike Garske’s bringing his own personal bowling ball and shoes. We have a professional among us.

Throughout the year there were several destination presentations, including Australia, Antarctica, Fiji, Galapagos, North Carolina, and Bali.

The club had a Spring Tune Up/Gear Maintenance lecture that was a good refresher.

Club Dives during 2006 were:
Lake Harbor Cleanup (no bombs encountered this year)
NW Underwater Treasure Hunt & Dive Show (Puget Sound Area)
Blue Heart Springs Dive and BBQ
  Lucky Peak
Redfish camping trip, diving Redfish, Alturas and Petit Lakes
  Rose Pond
And as previously noted, the club toured the Elks deco chambers with the DAN Dr.

Wade led the New Officer Elections:

For President, Denise Roberts was nominated by Mike Garske and seconded by Mary Graesch. She was elected by a narrow margin over Dirk Spackman, who was nominated in his absence. He’ll be sure to make it to future election meetings to prevent that from happening again.

For Vice President, Jim Hull was nominated by Mike Garske, seconded by Denise and duly elected.

For Secretary/Treasurer, Mary Graesch was nominated by Mike Garske, seconded by Chris and duly elected.

Changing of the Guard

Denise Roberts took over the meeting as the new president and proceeded to thank Wade for his service as an officer over the last 2 years. She noted that her information will be updated on the DDOFID.com website and that members would be able to contact her when ever they needed.

Denise talked about Upcoming Events:

January 9th we’ll have our annual bowling outing at BSU again. Mike promised not to wear his satin bowling shirt, so that folks won’t be intimidated.

February is the annual boat show, from the 8th to 11th. We share a booth with the State Parks and Rec Dept and the Sherriff’s Dept. We will need volunteers to help set up on Wednesday for a couple of hours, and then man the booth during the show. Approximate show hours (to be verified) are Thursday and Friday from Noon to 10 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from Noon to 6 p.m. This event is a lot of fun and a good opportunity increase diver safety by educating boaters about divers in Idaho waters.

On February 13th the meeting will be a presentation given by a former Navy Seal.

On March 13th the meeting will be Bureau of Reclamation Dive Team presentation.

On April 10th we’re planning on a presentation by a Rescue and Recovery expert from Kuna, but will have a backup alternative to that speaker in case he gets called out to do his job.

The meeting adjourned and was celebrated by consumption of pizza and beer!

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas.
And may all your dives in the Happy New Year be safe dives!!!
