19-OCT-2004 MEETING

Meeting Minutes For Desert Divers Of Idaho

Meeting of 10/19/04

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Earl. There were 15 members attending. The DAN doctor, Dr. Eric Johnson, was not able to attend. He has rescheduled for Nov. 9. Instead of Dr. Johnson we had an informative presentation by Chuck McDonald, from Boise City, about the White Water Park that Boise is planning to build in the area encompassing Bob Rice Pond, Veteran’s Pond and East and West Rose Ponds. Mr. McDonald is a diver and contacted Earl, Arnie, Dirk and Chris earlier this summer about this project. He gave us an overview of the project and told us that Jerry Pugh, the volunteer \ partnership coordinator for Boise Parks and Recreation, is interested in us helping clean the ponds in conjunction with other volunteer workers to remove the stuff we bring up to the banks. This would also help us get a foot in the door to possibly allow us to give input into the design and use of the new park as far as it affects the use of the ponds for SCUBA diving. Attached is the letter that Mr. Pugh sent to Chuck after talking to him in person.

Subject: Pond Cleanup

Mr. McDonald,

It was a pleasure talking to you. It would be great if we could get the Desert Divers involved with the clean up of the Simplot Park ponds. What we would need to do is identify a date, preferable a month – month and a half in advance. This could allow me to find another volunteer group to work the banks of the ponds, who would take the trash from you folks to trucks we would have. I have already had some individuals from the neighborhood express an interest.

We could have a big trash pick up day on a Saturday, that would last from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., where a large number of people could participate. If this is the angle we take, I would suggest we wait until spring. This would give us enough time to get all the logistics in order. We could still put a small project day together before the end of the year, if you were wanting to get some folks out there. If you have any questions, please give me a call at: 384-4060 ext. 319.

Thank You,

Jerry Pugh
Volunteer/Partnership Coordinator

After Chuck was finished we had pizza and watched the movie “Hitler’s Lost Sub” which the book “Shadow Divers” was written about. Thanks to Jeff for the movie and thanks to Larry for the use of Dive Magic’s theater.

The next meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. on Nov. 9, 2004 at Dive Magic.
